[ CHECK / [Mb/s] ]

Bandwidth converter

Convert MB/s to Mbps and back, including SI and binary transfer-rate units.

◉ Stays in your browser

01 / Your transfer rate

MB/s means megabytes per second; Mbps means megabits per second. One byte is eight bits. SI prefixes use powers of 1,000; binary Ki, Mi, Gi, and Ti prefixes use powers of 1,024. Enter up to 1 trillion in the selected unit.

What it does

Compare transfer speeds without mixing up megabytes and megabits. Convert MB/s to Mbps, reverse the direction, or choose bit and byte rates from base units through tera and tebi. Every option spells out the unit and its decimal or binary convention. The result includes common rate equivalents and a conversion factor for checking your own calculations.

Useful when

  • Compare an internet connection advertised in Mbps with a download reported in MB/s.
  • Translate a storage transfer rate in MiB/s into decimal megabits per second.
  • Normalize network benchmark results that use different units.

How to use it

  1. Enter the transfer rate and choose its current unit.
  2. Choose the output unit, or use Swap units to reverse the conversion direction.
  3. Convert, compare Mbps, MB/s, and MiB/s, then copy or download the result.

A few useful details

How do I convert MB/s to Mbps?

Multiply by eight: 100 MB/s is 800 Mbps. In the reverse direction, divide by eight: 100 Mbps is 12.5 MB/s. Uppercase B means bytes, while the b in Mbps means bits.

Is MB/s the same as MiB/s?

No. MB/s uses 1,000,000 bytes per second, while MiB/s uses 1,048,576. Decimal SI prefixes use powers of 1,000 and binary prefixes use powers of 1,024. The menus distinguish these conventions.

Does this measure my connection or account for overhead?

It converts the number you enter; it does not run a speed test or deduct protocol overhead. Use the transfer time calculator to apply an explicit payload-efficiency assumption to a file download or upload estimate.
